When we converted our garage into a our "creative studio" it had to wear a ton of hats. It needed to work as a:
- work desk for at least two people
- crafting surface
- needed storage for bigger format items like blueprints, wallpaper samples, large artpads, etc..
- need to be moveable! As our creative room, we need the flexibility to move the desk out of the way if need be!
So we got to work and created our own concoction of what we think is the perfect partner desk, or dare I say, family desk creation station! It's typically more than just the two of us working at the desk, our 7 year old is often found working there as well on his creative junk journals or drawing some kind of amazing space ship.
Anyways - we love the desk, and if you're at all interested in building one for youself, by all means check out the plans we drew up (link below). We didn't put measurements on the plans because everyone's space is different, but just so you know our desk we built has the following measurements:
- 90" long x 51" wide x 30" tall
- Each chair area has 4' x 27" clearance
- the shelves are 33" wide x 21.5" deep
The idea is simple, you just need very basic supplies. 2x4 lumber, 3/4" sanded plywood, stain for the wood (if you want), paint for the table top (if you want) and screws. For the screws, our recommendation would be to use GRK RSS / structural screws, #9 or #10, 3" long.
It would be very easy to alter these plans to whatever you need, this is just a jumping off point. As always DIY at your own risk. These plans aren't testing in any way, but it works great for us!
Without further ado. Here are the plans for the DIY Partner Desk!
