are you worried about radiation?

i must admit, i am. as we've learned, it is not something you want to mess around with. everything that's been happening in Japan is devastating and i'm sending good thoughts every day. i know Obama just said that they "do not expect harmful levels of radiation to reach... the US." however, i have heard that radiation levels may rise and people are freaking. this is evident by the potassium iodide selling out everywhere - there all out at the drug stores around LA. in my meager understanding, your thyroid is what absorbs the radiation which can lead to a myriad of health problems. when you take Potassium Iodide it basically fills up your thyroid with harmless levels of iodide so that you don't absorb the harmful ionizing radiation.

in the absense of potassium iodide, Joey did some research about natural supplements and remedies to strengthen your thyroid and body's defense against radiation. listen to this pod cast by David Wolfe to hear all the info... here is what we bought (from Whole Foods) and will be taking the next couple days per David Wolfe's recommendations:

Kelp - is full of naturally occurring iodine - use it in miso soup and stir frys Ginseng Mushroom Master which has Reishi mushrooms and Ashwagandha Root ThyroSense supplement which has potassium iodide as one of the main ingredients - although in much smaller amounts Chlorella in the form of Chlorophyll supplements use iodized sea salt on our food (Wolfe did not talk about this but we figure it can't hurt)

please note that potassium iodide in high doses is toxic to your body. please do your own research and consult professionals before taking anything. i'm just letting you know what i'm doing but i am not a doctor...or a scientist...although sometimes i pretend like i am ; )
