On a recent trip to the flea market I picked up some brass home accessories. I love brass because it has the warmth of gold, but not the price tag. Brass, a metal primarily composed of copper and zinc, is commonly used in the jewelry making world. Statues and decor accents like these are hard to find in 100% brass nowadays, or to buy new at a store - flea markets are your best bet.
It was an animal-themed day because I couldn't resist getting the family of giraffes and a giant solid brass rocking horse! I also got this beautiful carved urn thing, probably Moroccan and probably once a lamp...
Mama and baby are kissing! These are living in the center of our big dining table right now.
The details are so pretty and I love the ribbons of copper too!
The rocking horse looks like it's in motion. We did some research and found out it's probably from the late 1800's and made in France. I used to ride horses so it's kind of an ode to that and I love the whimsy of it - another Decorating With Toys moment like in this post about decorating with a toy train. Winston (the cat) is a large cat, so it gives you some size reference... he's also not too sure about this purchase.
