my Grandma used to work at the Isabele O'Neil Studio, Art Of The Painted Finishes in New York City, and i remember always getting faux finished gifts from her growing up. they ranged from gold-leafed doll chairs or mirrors to eggshell treasure boxes, distressed trunks and faux stone angel statues... i loved them all!
while i was at her apartment in NYC last week, i took some photos of the little boxes they used at the studio to example the different finishes. i want to do my coffee table in a faux malachite (green wavy stone) finish. faux may be out for walls but it's totally IN in my book to use on table-tops, dressers, accessories.... imagine the lapis lazuli finish (like the blue apple above) on a vintage dresser!!!
great inspiration right? my grandma gave me this book Professional Painted Finishes by Ina Brosseau Marx and there's a section on how to do malachite....so stay tuned for that!
i also love the ink black tiny circles on that round box (5th photo from bottom). i might have to do that on my nails!
