pickled comfort

Posted by MrKate on

this was this saturday's hangover food. i think the usual fare for most people's the morning after New Year's Eve (also known as new year's day) is greasy burgers, etc. as a vegan there are definitely still comfort food options, a burger or such from Native Foods or Veggie Grill or make your own like sweet potato fries and soy nuggets from Trader Joe's. but on saturday we decided to go cleansing and healthy and did up a fancy plate with Trader Joe's Vegetable Gyoza (a great vegan frozen option) with a sprinkle of gomasio on top, and some pre-prepared tempeh, spicy cucumbers, burdock root, lotus root and pickled ginger from Dave's Gourmet Korean food (he sells at our local farmer's market...it's delicious!). i think pickled ginger is my new favorite hangover cure, it's energizing and settles your stomach, Dave's version is great because it's sweetened with fruit juice, not sugar.

okay, off to start my week back to work! i hope everyone has a great first week of 2011!
