color palette: natural stones

Posted by MrKate on

A color palette, for a room design, outfit, website, or any creative project can be inspired by anything! I've always loved the beauty of natural stones, as you can see in past posts like: Decorating with Crystals and How To Display: Rock Collection. The gradient of naturally occurring color is truly amazing. All of these crystals are from my personal rock and crystal collection that I started when I was about 5 years old. Seeing them all next to each other shows you how many different colors can work to form a gorgeous palette.

Try this exercise with the things around you that you love: your favorite flower, a piece of wood, etc. and study how many different shades and colors are present and maybe you'll discover your perfect wall color!

For more on decorating with natural elements and letting their simple beauty shine see my post on Wabi Sabi Decor. There are many different meanings for natural stones and gems which I also find inspiring!

Rose quartz, tiger's eye and pyrite

Soapstone, polished lava and a desert rose

Malachite, pyrite and soapstone

Turquoise and rhodochrosite

Amethyst

The whole gang!

Some more friends I just bought at my local crafts store… the black is onyx and the pale yellow is citrine.

What inspires your color palette?
