You guys know I love to do a twist on things, so for this 4th of July I created a party-scape using red, white and blue with no American flags present. I used the patriotic color palette of the flag but played with hues of red, white and blue to give it a vintage/bohemian/nautical spin. Watch the video above for the steps for all the DIYs and see below for more! Have fun this 4th of July because...#whynot!

DIY Balloon Rope Streamers
Prep It:
- red, white, and blue balloons (I also used cream & light blue balloons for a more varied look!)
- white rope
- twine
- scissors
- masking tape (optional)
- balloon pump (optional)
Do It!:
- Prep your rope pieces by tying them up where you want them to hang and then cut the ends to size. TIP: I put tape around the ends of the rope so that when I cut my rope pieces they didn't fray.
- Blow up and tie the balloons and attach each one to the rope with a piece of twine. I chose to group the colors together but you could alternate or do whatever you want!
- Tie your streamers up to your overhang and enjoy!
DIY Fabric Scrap Garland
Prep It:
Do It!:
- Make a cut in your fabric about 2 to 3 inches wide and tear along the width of the fabric bolt.
- Tie the fabric strips to your twine.
- Tie the twine ends up to your overhang (or tape up to the ceiling) - You may need to trim your strips of fabric at this point.
- Repeat until you feel you have enough garlands to create a full and lively scene!
DIY Potato Stamped Plates
Prep It:
- potatoes
- glass paint
- plates
- paring knife
- cutting board
- paper plate or painter's palette
Do It!:
- Cut a potato in half.
- Cut a star shape into one of your potato halves using a small knife.
- Squirt or mix your paint on the paper plate.
- Dip the potato into the paint. TIP: You may want to practice some stamps on a paper plate before you do your glass plates.
- Stamp the plates. I chose to do a single star in the center of each plate but get creative!
- Follow the instructions on your glass paint tube to properly cure the paint (usually in the oven) before your party.
- Arrange with other mis-matched, red white and blue plates on your table!
What do you think? Happy 4th of July!
