DIY Furry Monster-Pom Keychain

Have you seen those fancy Fendi purse monsters celebs have affixed to their bags these days? ...Yes, I said purse monster. They really are the cutest and remind me of those purse dogs. They've got that #blessed-life-look without the risk of poop in your purse.

And all my holiday DIY-ing got me thinking ... if I can decorate my parties and my presents, why not share the love with my purse, as well?! Playing off the keychain trend, I thought it would be cute to create my very own purple poofy pom-pom which makes a great DIY gift item too! It adds a touch of whimsy, a pop of color, and will become your new best friend.

Prep It:

Faux fur in a color of your choice (I loved this faded purple!) Scissors Thick thread Fishing line Large sewing needle Chain Keychain Clasp

Do it!:

Start by cutting a 10 x 10" square of faux fur. Fold a top corner down to the bottom edge to create a triangle, and from this shape, use the scissors to round off the edges, creating a half circle.
Thread a large needle with about 2 feet of fishing line. Leave a couple inch tail at the end, and pull needle from the backside of the fur to the front. Start weaving the needle and fishing line in and out around the edges of the faux fur circle. The fabric will start to pucker and create a pocket shape.
If you want to create an extra voluminous look, place some plush stuffing on the inside of the faux fur pocket and continue to sew. If not, finish weaving around the edges of the fur until you reach where you began. Tie the extra fishing line and tail together and pull tight, closing the pocket and creating the pom-pom shape.
Loop the clasp through the keychain and then do the same for the chain. Depending on how long you want the keychain to hang, adjust the length of the chain (which you can probably do with a wire cutter, or go to a local hardware store and ask them to!)
Thread the needle with thick thread in a color that matches or wouldn't stand out against your keychain. Loop the needle and thread through the knotted fishing line and then the last link in the chain, and tie together tightly. I recommend triple knotting, for extra security!
Trim the tails of the fishing line and thread, and voila!
