Sometimes all it takes is a quick fix like a painted stripe on a thrifted basket! I'm into decorative storage this week - see DIY Jeweled Storage Containers - as part of a new year's quest to organize!
I got this basket for $4 at the Goodwill because I liked the shape and the trunk-like clasp, but it needed just a little something to be ready for display. My very easy solution was to paint a pale blue stripe near the base of the basket to make it look more decorative and shelf-ready. You could do this to a series of thrifted baskets to unify them and also try painting multiple stripes to bring in more colors and tie in with your interior color palette. I love making functional storage decorative - use a basket like this for toys, shoes, throw blankets, etc!
Prep it:- basket
- masking tape
- acrylic paint
- paint brush or foam brush
- tape off the area(s) that you want to paint
- paint 2 coats using your paint color and foam brush - make sure to work the paint into the cracks of the basket
- let dry and display and use your decorative basket for storage!
