game room re-vamp - interior decor project

Posted by MrKate on

our on-the-cheap game room/reading room re-vamp is finished! joey and i did this over the course of two weekends spending a couple hours here and there browsing garage sales and thrift stores. we didn't buy much for this room, just the chairs from the National Jewish Council Thrift shop and accessories from the Goodwill and garage/yard sales. the rest was stuff from around our place which we incorporated in the design to keep the cost low low low low looowww.

we had our inspiration in mind, which was a 'world traveler' theme - i blogged about it here. i can't stress enough how important an inspiration is, whether it's theme, tone, color, genre, etc. that way you have a basis for all your designing and collecting as you go. when you live with someone, etc. compromise is in order - we infused a bit more masculinity in this room than in other parts of our home, like with the darker brown tones, etc. not necessarily my first choice but i can like any style as long as i put my own twist on it and layer it to achieve a decorated look... i love our new, cozy room!

i outline the decorating process in the video above and i will post other quick DIY videos for the wall art and curtains. but let me know if you have any questions or comments!
