elegant outdoor dining room design from Home Made Simple

I hope you got/get to watch my final episode of this season of Home Made Simple on OWN (Saturday 9am/8c)! The episode features a patio re-design for an adorable couple Kevin and RC. I went for a South of France theme with lavender fields being my color palette inspiration. My favorite projects were the hand painted images I painted directly on the fence to create an outdoor "gallery wall", the custom mosaic table and the old dresser that we turned into an herb garden! Of course there are a ton of DIY projects that went in to the design of this outdoor space that can be interpreted in your own patio areas. Check out HomeMadeSimple.com for more info on all the projects!

Kevin and RC really wanted to be able to entertain in their outdoor space but they didn't have a sufficient (or pretty) eating area! Thus, we made this custom, mosaic tile table with broken pieces of tile in our color palette combined with a perimeter of Travertine tiles. Carpenter Amy Devers built the table base and showed us how to lay the tile. It was a big and important project for the whole space and created an elegant focal point. I wanted the space to feel like an outdoor room, so what better way to do that then to add wall art!? I hand painted these Provence and lavender fields-inspired paintings directly onto the white fence, using acrylic art paint from the craft's store. We used empty, vintage frames, all painted with layers of paint and then antiqued, to frame all of the fence art.
This old dresser I got at the flea market for $20. We refinished the top and painted the base. To make the drawers into planters we lined them with plastic and added potted herbs. You can drill small holes in the bottom of the drawers for extra drainage. See more on the project on HomeMadeSimple.com
Chandelier made out of paint sticks with mismatched chandelier jewels! We painted the paint stir sticks (free from the hardware store) and glued them to a lampshade base. We then drilled small holes and added chandelier crystals using wire. I love using indoor-looking lighting in outdoor spaces to make them feel even more like outdoor rooms. I think these look quirky and elegant at the same time!
"A home made mosaic tile table, a shabby chic chandelier, and an outdoor art gallery are some of the surprises awaiting a traveling make-up artist who returns home to find his partner has transformed their back porch into a fabulous French alfresco dining room!"
