last night joey, my mom and i went to see our good buddy Dan Levy headline at the Improv. he was hilarious, as usual. after the show and drinks at the bar we left to venture home but on the way, decided we were hungry. hmmm, where to stop for late-night vegan fare in LA? Swingers is a good option but i wanted something quick, so then Damiano Mr. Pizza of course! it's on Fairfax between Beverly and Melrose and they're open allll night. sure, your company will be the loud and wobbly post clubbers who slouch in the dark green booths satisfying their drunchies with pizza and wine(?). but the dim lighting and stellar pizza make it all okay. you order at the counter, sit in cozy booths and they have vegan cheese AND vegan pepperoni! the slices are huge (NYC style) and the dough is fresh and the crust is thin. so good! i'm craving more as i type.
for those of you who don't live in LA, make your own late-night pizza by keeping some pre-made pizza dough (Trader Joe's has a good one) in the freezer! when you come home just pre-heat the oven to 450 ish, thaw the dough under warm water (keep it in the plastic while thawing), and slap on whatever you have in the fridge: tomato sauce, bbq sauce, cheese (without cheese is good too, don't let the absence of cheese be a deal-breaker), sun-dried tomatoes, olives, capers, any veggies you have around, herbs etc. bake for 10 to 15 and munch! check out other pizza recipe posts here.
