Mr. Kate Advent Calendar Day 8: Cozy Cocktails!

Is there anything better than the cozy, cheery feeling of the holidays? Snuggled by the fireplace, lights dimmed, a classic movie playing, the smell of cinnamon in the air … aaaah, pour me a glass of that!

Well, with these warm holiday cocktails, made with Skinnygirl® Vodka, that’s exactly what I intend to do! The best part about these drinks is that I know they’re low calorie, so I don’t have to feel guilty about doubling up on my gingerbread cookie consumption later. But they’re also incredibly delicious in their own right.

The Mulled Wine offers a spicier option that warms the soul and has a great citrus kick, while the Apple Cider is a little lighter and sweeter with a strong cinnamon taste. So much yum, so little time. Best of all, these recipes are for large batches, so you can bottle some up and give the gift of a homemade Skinnygirl® Cocktail this season.

Mulled Wine – Serves 10-12

1 bottle Skinnygirl® Cabernet Sauvignon 1 cup Skinnygirl® Bare Naked vodka 2-3 fresh orange slices 1 apple slice 2 tablespoons raisins 2 cinnamon sticks 2 teaspoons whole cardamom 2 teaspoons dried orange peel 5 anise stars 12 cloves ½ cup sugar Optional: rose petals or tea leaves

Do it!:

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a pot, and simmer on low heat for 20 minutes. Watch the drink to make sure it never reaches a boil! If it boils, the alcohol will cook out of the mixture, and we don’t want that!
  2. When the wine is done simmering, carefully pour it into a glass bottle for safe keeping. You can drink it right away, but the longer the spices and fruit mull in the cocktail, the better it will taste.
  3. When you’re ready to drink it, pour the wine through a strainer to catch all of the spices and fruit pieces. Heat it up again, and you’re ready to go!
