the last two days on Phu Quoc island in Vietnam have been amazing. the island vibe is of course what you would expect, laaaaaid back. we went on an all day boat trip yesterday around the main island and visited little outerlying islands, snorklings spots, deserted beaches, and the local hang-out Sao Beach, along the way. we swam and lounged and ate on the boat. the sights and the colors are incredible! they love to paint their boats with bright paint, two of my faves are the turquoise and teal.

the people are so polite and soft-spoken, they don't push you to do or buy anything. we had massages on the beach today for $4! we tipped heftily of course. there are native wild dogs everywhere that are cute and fairly friendly, although not fixed so there are puppies everywhere! i don't think they eat the dogs here, although i heard they do in Saigon, which is where we're going next.... but i'm reading Eating Animals right now, and the author makes an interesting point about eating dogs and cats. he references our odd selective justification in the states for eating farm animals, yet our abject horror at eating cats and dogs.

thanks so much for your comments on my previous blogs! and thank you Ali, Rachel and Audrey for cat-sitting...don't eat them while i'm gone!
