See-through tops may seem a little scary, but experiment with layers and undergarments and you'll be rocking lace, crochet, and mesh in no time! The holy nature (and I don't mean Mary) of lace makes it a great staple for Spring/Summer (let in that breeze). When putting an outfit together, the versatility of lace tops lends itself to feminine pairings and juxtapositions, if paired with black or an exposed bra. Either way, the options are as numerous as the holes in said lace! Here are some of my lace top ensembles from past and recent...
Crochet top by Karen Kane worn in BEACHella: DIY rose crown and festival fort. Here I paired it with a pink bra (could be a bathing suit) from Urban Outfitters, pale pink shorts from Forever 21, a DIY rose crown and arm-full of Mr. Kate jewelry. This outfit reeks femininity with the lace and pink but the black roses, exposed bra and mixed metals gives it a little edge.
If you're not into showing your bra to everyone (no judgement either way) try putting a bright colored or neon tank under your lace top. This is from OOTD: Lime and Lace where I put a lime green American Apparel chiffon top under a puffed sleeve lace top. With the addition of black skinny jeans and spiked wedges, the lace takes on a more New York, street-style vibe.
This lace top outfit I wore to the Mr. Kate collection release party. I went for the "hi, meet my bra" bra under this lace with peplum Zara top because I thought the lace would blend in too much if I wore it over a black tank. Short blue knit shorts over tights balance out the exposed skin on top. Of course, I topped it off with the Mr. Kate Sea Nymph necklace in turquoise!
From OOTD: Bunny Chic and I got a tattoo post - both looks I wore a turquoise bra under my lace top. Try tucking in your lace top and using a leather woven belt to offset the feminine lace. Or if you're in the mood to go full-on-fem, you can never go wrong with a tutu...mmm, I sense my first book title!
A tip from my Crochet post: "style note: if you’re like me and not really comfortable going sans bra but you want to wear tiny-strapped things, etc. just choose a very purposeful bra and let it show! vbs = visible bra straps." In this case, I wore this striped bra from American Apparel with this lace dress from Forever 21. The brown boots allow the exposed striped bra and straw hat to make more sense...kind of cowgirl meets street chic.
This magenta crochet top from an outfit worn long ago in 2009 "Fine Art and Wedgies" already has the holes to make it look a little edgy. I wore it over an American Apparel leotard, which are great for lace top looks, except when you have to go pee!
How do you wear your lace tops?
