travel diary: playa viva, juluchuca mexico

joey took me to an "eco resort" in Juluchuca, Mexico called Playa Viva for my birthday and our 5 year anniversary... yes, i'm over 5! there were only 6 other guests besides us in this very remote, beautiful and sustainable local. we slept in our own eco casita with open walls and windows that let in the sea breeze and the soothing cacophony of the of the waves.

Playa Viva is all about nurturing the environment around the resort so they participate in the sea turtle protection effort. we actually got to see a mother sea turtle laying her eggs on the beach at night! it was so amazing! the volunteers collected up her eggs to hatch safely and then they will release the babies into the ocean when they are ready. it was so incredible to see her in mommy action!

i totally recommend Playa Viva if you're in the mood for an eco-friendly, harmonious, relaxing and remote tropical getaway! they cook three meals a day (included in the price), have morning yoga and the staff is lovely and accommodating. they have excursions you can do, like snorkeling and visiting a local family that makes chocolate...but Joey and i just lounged and dipped in the ocean, drank organic basil margaritas and i read 50 Shades of Grey... but more on that later!
