A Room Makeover’s Secret Weapon: A Deep Clean!

Posted by MrKate on

As a kid, cleaning your room was a mandatory act of parental appeasement. Perhaps you didn’t understand then why your mom and dad insisted on spotlessness, but now as an adult — you totally get it.

When redesigning rooms, the very first step is a good thorough cleaning. Why? Because cleaning a space first sets the stage for a beautiful room makeover. We’re giving someone a fresh start with new paint and furniture and an entirely new aesthetic experience, do you think we’re letting any dusty corners remain? No way! A clean room calms the mind and gives a sense of care — and as far as I’m concerned, it’s the ultimate interior design must-have.

Below are five of our biggest messy-to-clean room transformations! Check them out and get inspired to give your room, and yourself, the gift of a deep clean.

Kitchen Counter Cleanse

This kitchen’s unique tiki roof was such a fun feature to incorporate in the apartment’s redesign, but it also meant that all eyes went straight towards this cluttered and not-so-cute area.

We added some hanging lights, vintage decor, and fun orange bar stools so this kitchen could show off its unique flair, but just as importantly, we gave it a good clean so it could be the perfect space for entertaining! The Clorox® Clean-Up® Cleaner + Bleach was amazing for cleaning and disinfecting the countertops, and the Clorox Disinfecting Wipes with Ultra Strength Blue Fibers came in clutch to take care of the trickier, stickier messes. Now it is the perfect spot for hosting (and posting … pics to Instagram!)

Forgotten Corner Fix-Up

Shared offices are fantastic for collaborating, teamwork, and let’s be real, chatting during coffee breaks, but they can also be an equation for clutter! Multiple persons’ things seem to multiply when all in one room, and corners like this are left as dusty, dingy makeshift storage areas.

After relocating the contents of those boxes into more appropriate and aesthetically pleasing storage solutions, we had to tend to the mess left behind! In an office set-up like this, which marries a lot of different textures and materials to get that *juxtaposition*, a cleaner like the Clorox® Scentiva™ Multi-Surface Cleaner in Tuscan Lavender & Jasmine was just about all that was needed to clear up any dirt and leave behind a calming lavender scent to get everyone in the clear mindset for a productive workday.

Pet-Friendly Purification

Pets! Gotta love them, and definitely gotta be on your top clean-up game when they’re around. This room makeover revolved around creating a space for a woman to share with her three cats, so a deep deodorizing and dusting was needed before any new furniture could be brought in.

In addition to some DIY innovations, like these Cat Scratch Bookshelves, this room got some beautiful and colorful bohemian accents to counter the notion that cat ladies are boring! But first, we tended to the rug with the Clorox® Pet Urine Remover to make sure it was so fresh and so clean, then gave all the furniture in the room a wipe-down with Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes. The difference was so noticeable, and our cat lady was beyond happy with her new, clean habitat to enjoy with her furry friends.

No Skeletons (or Specks of Dust) In This Closet!

Storage and organization are a key part of keeping any room clean and clutter-free. For this glam room, we transformed this closet into a custom beauty boudoir that even the most methodical humans would melt over! But closets tend to collect a lot of dust, and that type of dirtiness just would not go with the level of glamour we were operating with.

When your closet looks like this, you take the doors off so that the entire world can see its contents! With some DIY touches to the drawers, and some bright pink paint behind it, this shelving system brings the drama and the dreaminess. To ensure it shines like the star it is, we cleaned the closet (before and after installation) with Clorox® Triple Action Dust Wipes, to specifically target any stray dust that would stand out on an all-white design. A clean closet sets the stage for choosing the perfect clothes, accessories and shoes, taking your fashion game to the next level.

Washing Your Whites

A monochromatic room is always chic and in-style, and an all-white color palette is especially popular for those who like minimalist, Scandinavian, or hotel-inspired designs. This room, in a high-rise building in the heart of LA, already had a hotel vibe to it, but to make the transformation complete, we needed to make it look like the cleaning service just came by.

What made this room transformation pop was the layers of whites and off-whites that gave it a luxe effect. But with pets sharing this space, and the color palette being particularly susceptible to staining, a product like the Clorox® Regular-Bleach2 with CLOROX®™ gave the white bedding a brand-new brilliance. With a freshly cleaned space like this, you just can’t help but relax and enjoy. Keep those white tones shining!

When it comes to interior design and room makeovers, clean is just the beginning. It sets the stage for a smooth and beautiful makeover and makes you feel more calm and relaxed. Plus, once your space is clean you can enjoy all the amazing things that come next! For more information visit Clorox.com/CloroxIsTheBeginning
