Ask Mr. Kate: styling simple jeans and tees?

Posted by MrKate on

Question: Well hello Mr. Kate I wanna know how to style some simple pants and t-shirts that I have ?

Answer:

Well hello! Yes, jeans and tees are a great go-to when you're in a rush or an outfit funk. The photo above is of me and my sister, Tess standing side by side in our boyfriend jeans which she just happened to show up wearing the same day I wore this outfit...sister genes in jeans! Okaaay, anyway, I love a good jeans and tee but the trick is to elevate the look with: A. Accessories and B. Choice of jeans and tee!

DIY Pearl Sunglasses!

The most obvious ways to spruce up a simple jeans and t-shirt outfit is accessories! I like to layer necklaces and bracelets. Sunglasses and funky shoes are always a great way to add personality to a simple outfit. I like to wear wedges or shoes with height to lengthen my leg when I wear my cropped boyfriend jeans. If you're partial to skinny or straight-leg jeans, a fun pair of flats like these spiked ones, are a cute option.

If you're going with a simple t-shirt, choose one for it's fabric and fit. My favorites to wear are vintage cotton t-shirts or slouchy linen t-shirts like the one from Zara I'm wearing with these pics. I think a little slouch to a shirt adds style, if the shirt is too tight with a tight pair of jeans, it too much of the same. Pair a tighter t-shirt with a baggier pair of jeans and vise-versa.
