DIY Dyed Socks, 3 Ways

MrKate_DyedSocks_Blog (77 of 77) What are shoes without a good pair of socks? Okay, sure, the Louboutin and Charlotte Olympia stunners are doing just fine on their own, thank you very much — but most days, the kicks we wear around town greatly benefit (both in style and in comfort) from a great pair of socks.

Never content with leaving a good thing un-DIY-ed, I saw the white socks that frequented my ankle situation as blank slates upon which I could splash and splatter my creativity at will. So splash and splatter is exactly what we did! Mixing up a layered, deep blue dye, we took the tie-dye process to not one, not two, but three new levels with a trio of new techniques that work well not only on socks, but on any article of clothing you deem deserving of the DIY process! Prep It:

Do It!:

  1. Empty one gallon of hot water into a bucket. Mix together the teal, aquamarine, and evening blue dyes for a dreamy layered blue that has depth like the ocean. Stir together!
  2. For the dip-dyed look: Start lowering the sock, toes first, into the dye mixture. Dip a few times, then rinse with water upside down, so the dye will fade out and create that ombre effect.
  3. For the color-blocked look: Dip the foot section of the sock into the dye briefly, one or two times. Turn around and dip the leg section into the dye and hold for half a minute. Repeat this process at will to get a more intense look!
  4. For the sprayed look: Fill a spray bottle with the dye mixture. Hold the socks a few feet away from the bottle and spritz with the dye. Make sure to get all angles and sides of the sock!
  5. Wash your new socks, let them dry, then show them off with some of your favorite sneakers or some trendy sandals!
